The 29th annual Wine in the Pines was, by all accounts, an Oscar winning success! This year's adaptation of the event saw the Keystone Convention Center transformed into Tinseltown as celebrity guests walked their way down the red carpet, past the paparazzi and through the two towering Oscar statues that led into the grand ballroom. In addition to all of the Hollywood fanfare, attendees were treated to sumptuous gourmet food from some of Keystone's finest restaurants and a selection of more than 500 wines. Guests also enjoyed live music performed by Tina Navarro and The Breakdown Band, live and silent auctions and the always popular and ample dessert spread creatively presented by Keystone's head pastry chef, Ned Archibald.
Wine in the Pines, which benefits CP of Colorado, was founded 29 years ago by Mike and Margaret Smith, owners of Dillon Ridge Liquors in Summit County. Their vision was to create an event to help people like their daughter Kelly, who has Cerebral Palsy. As Mike Smith is fond of saying, Wine in the Pines is a way to "pay it forward" and give back to others in a meaningful way that helps people like his daughter, Kelly, receive the critical resources and support needed to fully develop their potential and live life to its fullest.
To that end, Wine in the Pines and its many patrons and supporters over the years, have made a powerful, often life-changing impact on hundreds of Coloradans with disabilities and other challenges. For nearly three decades, proceeds from Wine in the Pines have been invaluable in helping CP of Colorado create, maintain and grow many of its innovative, sometimes groundbreaking, programs and services as we strive to meet the unique needs and challenges of individuals, children and families across Colorado.
In recent years, funds raised at Wine in the Pines have been used to help people with disabilities achieve success through CP of Colorado’ statewide employment program, headquartered in Denver at The Kelly Smith Employment Center. The Center is named after Kelly Smith, the daughter of Wine in the Pines founders, Mike and Margaret Smith. To the more than 4,000 people served annually through the program, Kelly serves as a model of persistence and determination in overcoming challenges and contributing to her community
To all of the attendees, volunteers, sponsors, contributors, wine distributors and others who so graciously have contributed their time, talent, wisdom and support over the past 29 years, we salute you! Your collective generosity, unyielding support and friendship is a treasured resource to CP of Colorado and those we serve, and is the reason that Wine in the Pines has become one the longest running, most respected, successful and endearing events of its kind!
